How Avocados Can Help You Lose Weight
Avocado may help you lose weight, according to a new study. It is the fashionable food, the protagonist of the most hipster toast, a fruit rich in monounsaturated fats that, instead of fattening as many believe, can be perfect for those who want to lose weight.
A new study by the Illinois Institute of Technology and published in Nutrients magazine has shown that replacing refined carbohydrates with fresh avocado can suppress hunger and increase satiety in meals.
Fresh avocado can suppress hunger and increase meal satisfaction.
The study was conducted with 31 overweight people who were offered two types of food. The first had 76% carbohydrates and 14% fat, with a total of 680 calories. And the second, with the same calories and fat, had fewer carbohydrates. At these meals, the subjects had to eat half an avocado and, after doing so, they said they felt more satiated. The final conclusion of the participants was that the meals containing avocado were much more satisfying and left them less hungry. As a result, it was also shown that as they became more satiated, the amount of food they consumed was less.
Britt Burton, director of the Illinois Institute of Technology, explains that for years there has been a process of demonizing fats, but that carbohydrates and natural fibers can be very positive for appetite regulation and weight control. In addition, they also help us reduce insulin and glucose levels, lowering the risk of diabetes or other cardiovascular problems.
Avocados not only satiate us during meals, but also control blood pressure (making them good for the heart), keep cholesterol at bay, contain anti-inflammatory properties, regulate blood sugar levels, increase nutrient absorption, and care for the skin, among other properties, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
